Suitcase Trade Down

Suitcase trade between Iran and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) during the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20) stood at $82.81 million, indicating a 18.38% decline compared to the preceding year, IRNA reported. Suitcase trade in Iran refers to the small-scale trade that takes place across borders with the northern, northeastern and northwestern neighbor countries between the border regions’ residents. As per the data by Iran Customs Administration, suitcase trade accounted for 0.23 percent of the country’s total non-oil exports during the period. Astara border crossing recorded the highest level of suitcase trade, followed by Bileh Savar and Bajgiran border crossings.
