Iran is planning to send commercial attaches to India, Afghanistan, South Africa and the UAE in the coming days to identify trade opportunities with the target countries, Mir Aboutaleb Badri, a senior official at Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), said on Thursday, adding that the number of envoys is scheduled to increase to 30 in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21).

The commercial envoys will be playing a crucial role in promoting trade with other countries. They are tasked to address the challenges faced by businessmen and establish links with decision-makers and officials in target countries where they will take stock of technical and engineering projects and business events and inform the business community in Iran, he was quoted by IRNA as saying,

Similar envoys have already been sent to Iraq, Lebanon, China, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Pakistan.

“Promotion of trade with other countries is to a large extent dependent on the role of commercial attaches,” Badri added.

He went on to say that commercial attaches will be sent also to Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Nigeria and Kenya in the near future.

The move to increase the number of commercial attaches is part of efforts by President Rouhani’s administration to boost Iran’s trade relations with the rest of the world. The envoys have a dual task. On the one hand, they will introduce the economic prospects and investment opportunities in Iran to foreign investors, and on the other will inform the Iranian businesses about the possible trade opportunities in the target countries.
