Ban on Rice Imports Not Lifted

Iran has no plans to lift the ban on the import of Indian rice, said deputy agriculture minister, Ali Ghanbari, ISNA reported on Tuesday. Meanwhile, head of the Iranian Rice Importers Association, Masih Keshavarz explained that Iran currently does not need to import rice as the available rice in the country is sufficient to meet market demand. “Any official decision to lift the ban on rice imports would be announced to us by the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad,” Keshavarz added. The statements followed the news released by foreign news agencies that an Indian trade delegation was travelling to Iran this week to discuss resumption of rice exports. No official update on the news has so far been released.
