The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) report for the third quarter of the last Iranian calendar year (September 23- December 21, 2014) indicates an unemployment rate of 10.5 percent during the period, IRNA reported on Sunday.The CBI report estimates Iran’s total population at 77.8 million, of which 56.4 million dwell in urban areas and 21.4 million live in rural areas. The economically active population during the 3-month period was estimated at 23.9 million. An unemployment rate of 11.7 percent was reported in urban areas compared with 7.4 percent in rural areas. Women unemployment rate stood at 20.3 percent during the period while the rate for men was reported at 8.7 percent. An unemployment rate of 21.8 percent was recorded for the youth aged between 15 to 29 years. An unemployment rate of 9.5 percent had earlier been announced by the CBI for the second quarter of the past Iranian calendar year (June 22-September 23, 2014).
