The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL Group) transported 33 million tons of cargo in the outgoing Iranian year (to end March 20), registering a record high with 22 percent growth compared with the previous year, Marine Association News Agency (MANA) reported on Wednesday. In terms of imports and exports, container shipping increased by 21 percent and bulk cargo shipping increased by 30 percent compared with last year, IRISL Group’s Managing director, Mohammad Hossein Dajmar announced, noting that the organization currently has a fleet of 157 ships with the capacity of more than 5.2 million tons. “The shipping group also witnessed 23 percent growth in the number of trips and 11 percent increase in freight rates over the year,” the official added.
