Nearly 118 metric tons of saffron has been exported from the city of Mashhad during the past 11 months of the current year ( ends March 20), which indicates an increase of about 27% compared with the similar period last year, deputy head of the National Council of Saffron, Gholamreza Miri, said on Monday. “Mashahd accounts for 90% of Iran’s total saffron exports,” he was qouted by Mehr news agency as saying. The price of saffron has increased by 5% since March, mainly due to decline in the supply of the costly spice.
