Iran has started conducting its fourth agriculture census, said the head of Statistical Center of Iran, adding that the process will take two weeks. Based on the last census conducted eleven years ago, there were some 4.3 million agricultural areas across Iran on 17.7 million hectares of land. Adel Azar emphasized the importance of such censuses, referring to the 18% employment in the agricultural sector. The census is a complete count of farms, livestock as well as the people who operate them. It also takes account of land use and ownership, production practices, income and expenditures among other things.
