India is planning to export $30 million worth of tea to Iran in 2015, Indian Tea Association’s (ITA) Vice Chairman, Azam Monem said on Tuesday. “Iran and India have resolved issues over the presence of pesticides in Indian tea, which had threatened tea exports.” A non-profit organization in India, Greenpeace recently released a report stating that tested samples of India’s most prolific brands had traces of pesticides, including the banned substance DDT. India’s Tea Board later released a statement that all samples met India’s stipulated limits of pesticides and were within safety parameters. Iran and India have formed a joint working group to facilitate tea export from India, which is expected to increase in 2015 by at least two-fold, IRNA reported.
