Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Abbas-Ahmad Akhondi says the government is planning to implement railway electrification system for all railways in the southern and southwestern regions, in addition to the Tehran-Mashhad railway. He said plans to connect the Imam Khomeini Airport to the Tehran-Qom railway, noting that the second construction phase of a high-speed (350 kilometers per hour) railway for Tehran-Qom-Isfahan will soon be implemented at a total cost of $2.6 billion, Persian daily Ta’adol reported.
