Indian rice accounts for 80% of rice imports to Iran, secretary of the Rice Importers Association, Massih Keshavarz said on Saturday. “According to statistics released by Iran Customs Administration, Iran has imported 1.77 million metric tons of rice, valued at $1.293 billion, during the 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (to end March 20), which indicates a 39.7 % decrease compared to the same period last year,” he as quoted by ISNA as saying. He added that 6% of imported rice in the Iranian market comes from Pakistan, while the rest comes from Thailand.
