The Expediency Council received last week the draft of the Sixth Five-Year Economic Development Plan outlined by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, government spokesperson, Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, said on Saturday.
“The resistance economy has been highlighted in the plan. It shows that productivity and economic growth as per the objectives of the 20-Year National Vision Plan (2005-2025) are of outmost significance” he was quoted by IRNA as saying.
The five-year economic development plans (FYDP) are medium-term roadmaps designed by the government to help achieve sustainable growth.
Iran has designed and implemented several economic development plans before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with a focus on private and public sector interaction.
Both the fourth FYDP (2006-2011) and the fifth FYDP (2011-2016) emphasize a smaller government role in the economy, while boosting the privatization process.
“Economic growth is the outcome of investment and productivity,” Nobakht said, noting that “there are certain countries that seek to undermine foreign investment in Iran.”
