Timber Import Tariffs Lifted

The government has reduced the tariff imposed on wood imports to zero, in an attempt to supply the domestic market with sufficient quantity of the material, deputy minister of agriculture, Khodakaram Jalali said on Tuesday.  “We are faced with severe scarcity of wood and paper in the country,” he was quoted by Mehr news agency as saying.  According to the official, Iran’s annual consumption of wood and related products amounts to 6.5 million cubic meters, of which 3 million cubic meters is produced domestically and the remaining is imported.
