Iran accounts for more than 5% of the world’s apple production, IRNA quoted head of Central Organization of Rural Cooperative of Iran, Hossein Safaie as saying on Saturday. The official added that the country has a 4% share in global orange production as well. “Nearly 325,000 metric tons of apples were exported from Iran to other countries in the first ten months of the current year, which is double the amount of exports last year,” he said. He also said that the agriculture ministry is under pressure to supply the market with imported fruit for Nowruz, adding: “There is no logic to behind fruit imports when Iran is among the biggest producer and exporters of fruit.”
