The volume of exports and imports from the 11 major commercial ports in the country has exceeded 140 million metric tons since the beginning of current Iranian year (ending March 20), IRNA quoted deputy minister of roads and urban development and the managing director of Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), Mohamamd Saeednejad as saying on Thursday. The official added that the figure is expected to reach 155 million tons before the year’s end One of the largest and most important ports in Iran, Shahid Rajaee – located in the southern Hormozgan province – accounts for 53 percent of the country’s maritime trade and 87 percent of the container loading and unloading activities, the official noted speaking at Hormozgan Investment Opportunities Conference on Thursday. Pointing to the huge investment opportunities in Hormozgan province, he said 2,400 hectares of land will be offered to investors in the port in the upcoming year.
