The export of tiles and ceramics generates $500 million in revenues per annum, IRNA quoted Mojtaba Shirali, a member of Tiles and Ceramics Producers’ Council as saying on Tuesday. The official noted that Iran is currently the world’s fourth largest producer and the fifth largest exporter of tiles and ceramics, adding that the exports go to 15 countries including Iraq, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Russia, and China. More than 11 billion square meters of ceramic and tiles were produced within the past decade in the world and the share of Iran was 380 million square meters, he said. According to official data, 130 manufacturing units are active in tiles and ceramics production nationwide. Iran hosted the 1st International Conference on Tiles, Ceramics, and Sanitary Ware (ICTS 2014) last November. The two-day conference was mainly focused on developing new technologies and production processes.
