The average lifespan of buildings in Iran is between 25 to 30 years, while the figure is 150 years in developed countries, Majid Veldan, an official with Iran Construction Engineering Organization (IRCEO) told IRNA. He called on the government to focus its efforts on maintaining and retrofitting the existing buildings. He said the 6th national conference on construction regulations, which is going to be held in Shiraz in September, offers an opportunity to discuss ways to improve the quality of constructions, he noted.
