Iran is to export 100,000 metric tons of chicken in the upcoming calendar year (starting March 21), deputy minister of agricultural Jihad Hassan Rokni said in a meeting with his South African counterpart Bheki Cele in Tehran on Monday, IRNA reported. Rokni said Iran produces more than two million tons of chicken every year and that in the current year it exported about 65,000 tons of the product. He said Iran has become self-sufficient in chicken farming over the past two years and is planning to elevate its production level in the near future. “About 900,000 tons of eggs were produced this year, 60,000 of which were exported,” he added.
