More than 74,000 metric tons of high quality honey has been produced this year, deputy minister of agriculture, Hassan Rokni, said on Friday, calling on the government and the private sector to support the industry. “The amount has been produced by 6.3 million artificial beehives and 300,000 traditional beehives,” he was quoted by IRNA as saying. He added that Iran is among the top ten honey producers worldwide, noting that while the average global per capita consumption of the product is around 225 grams per annum, Iranians use nearly 980 grams of the product every year, which is three times higher that the global average.
