The water and wastewater operation and maintenance company has successfully implemented a pilot project to exclude drinking water from tap water with the aim of overcoming the current water crisis in the country. The pilot experiment in the northeastern city of Mashhad saved a considerable amount of water and dramatically decreased the costs to refine water. The company said the project to exclude drinking water from tap water needs to be planned depending on the water distribution network for every different city. Experts say the country - once faced with water crisis only during the summer- is now grappling with the challenge throughout the year. Iran is facing a decades-long water crisis that has reduced the country’s water supply to crisis levels.
