The southeastern port city of Chabahar will be able to handle large freight ships. Ports and Maritime Organization said after performing dredging operation in the port, freighter ships as heavy as 80,000 tons could be moored. Increasing the capacity of the port to load and unload goods will considerably lower the prices of goods for eastern provinces. Developing Chabahar will also help expand transit network in the east. Chabahar is a port city on the east coast of the Sea of Oman, being strategically crucial as it gives access routes to Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
