Pistachio Exports

Pistachio exports will generate $1.5 billion by the yearend (March 20), IRNA quoted Mohsen Jalalpour, the head of Iran Pistachio Association predicted, as saying on Monday. Iran ranks second in pistachio farming after the United States and first in global export of the product, he said. The country produced more than 200 thousand metric tons of pistachio this year (ending March 20), which shows a 20 percent rise compared to last year, the official said. According to official data, nearly 120,000 tons of pistachio, worth above $1.2 billion was exported during the first ten months of the current year. China, Hong Kong, the European Union, and Iraq are the major importers of Iran’s pistachio. China ranks first, accounting for nearly 50 percent of Iran’s export of the product.
