The first all-concrete runway has been officially inaugurated in Shahid Madani Airport, in the northwestern city of Tabriz, in the presence of the First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri, ISNA reported on Saturday. The project has cost $400 billion rials ($14.5 million at official exchange rate), the report added. The runway is 4.2 kilometers long and 60 meters wide. Since both asphalt and concrete techniques have been used in its construction, the runway can provide sufficient skid resistance to allow safe braking while it is smooth enough to prevent damage to aircraft undercarriages.
