The government has called for the removal of those who earn more than 25 million rials ($925 at official exchange rate) per month from the list of subsidy receives, Ali Mohammad Ahmadi, a parliament member told ILNA on Wednesday. The revenues earned from subsidies in the next Iranian calendar year (starting Mach 21) is estimated to stand at 480 trillion rials ($17.4 billion), 370 trillion rials ($13.4 billion) of which is to be earmarked for paying cash subsidies to households, while 50 trillion rials ($1.8 billion) will go to the production sector and 48 trillion rials ($1.7 billion) will go to the health sector, he said. According to the subsidy reform plan, the government is supposed to cut some of its subsidies on food and energy and spend the saving on cash payments. But generating the amount needed to cover the cash payments has turned out to be yet another problem.
