Nearly 120,000 tons of pistachio, worth above $1.2 billion, have been exported during the first ten months of the current year (ending March 20), the head of Iran-China joint chamber of commerce, Asadollah Asgaroladi, said on Wednesday. “Another 3,000 tons of pistachio is expected to be exported before the year’s end,” he was quoted by ILNA as saying. He added that with 20,000 tons of domestic consumption during the year’s remaining two months, the total pistachio consumption during the current Iranian year is expected to reach 140,000 tons. China, Hong Kong, the European Union, and Iraq are the major importers of Iran’s pistachio. China ranks first, accounting for nearly 50 percent of Iran’s export of the product.
