Part of Gov’t Debt Paid in Cash

The Rouhani administration has paid in cash parts of the debt of the previous administration to lenders. Payment in cash is unprecedented as governments usually pay their debt by transferring shares of the state-owned firms which have already gone bankrupt, said the CEO of Bank Saderat Iran, Mohammad Reza Pishro. “This is the first time in the history of banking that a government pays debts in cash.”
