A total od 115,647 domestic and international flights were carried out via Iranian airports in the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 21-June 21), AviationPros.com cited Iran Airports Company's data as reporting.

The figure, covering flights of 55 airports, of which 50 airports are under the supervision of IAC, indicates a 5% decline compared with the same period of the preceding year.

More than 13.83 million passengers were transported via Iranian airports in the three-month period, 7% fewer than in the year before.

Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran topped Iranian airports in terms of flights with over 33,561 flights and 3.9 million passengers, followed by Mashhad airport (16,099 flights and over 2.3 million passengers), Imam Khomeini (13,852 flights, 2.07 million passengers), Shiraz (8,807 flights, 888,000 passengers), Kish (6,312 flights, 771,700 passengers) and Isfahan (5,748 flights and 617,000 flights) international airports.

Also, 137.6 million kilograms of cargo were transported via Iranian airports in the period, 5% less year-on-year.

Imam Khomeini International Airport, which is also in Tehran, stood at first place among Iranian airports in terms of cargo transportation. Over 38.7 million kilograms of cargo were transported via the airport in the three-month period.

Mehrabad (27.8 million kilograms), Mashhad (21 million kg), Shiraz (8.8 million kg), Kish (8.6 million kg) and Isfahan (5.8 million kg) airports stood next.

Over 455,613 domestic and international flights were carried out via Iranian airports in the last fiscal year, ended March 20, 2018, 8% more year-on-year.

More than 57 million passengers were transported via Iranian airports in the 12-month period, registering a 7% increase compared with the preceding year.

A total of 552.3 million kilograms of cargo were transported via Iranian airports in the period, which is 9% more compared to the 12-month period of the previous year.
