The Iranian government will commence the process of building two new towns in the southern Chabahar County in Sistan-Baluchestan Province from next week, the newly-appointed CEO of the New Towns Development Company said. “At present, 16 new towns with populations exceeding 7,000 people each have managed to attract people,” Habibollah Taherkhani was also quoted as saying by Fars News Agency during a press conference on Monday, his first since being appointed as the new head of the state-run company. The official, who is also a deputy roads and urban development minister, said 400,000 Mehr housing units will be built in the two new towns. Taherkhani also said this is on top of the 50,000 residential units that will be built specifically for middle-income Iranians who decide to reside in these towns.
