Gold deposits discovered in Iranian mineral zones have added 40 tons to the country’s reserves, deputy minister of industries, mining and trade said on Monday. “New reserves have been discovered in Sistan-Baluchestan, Kurdestan, West Azarbaijan and South Khorasan provinces,” Mehdi Karbasian, who doubles as the chairman of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, also told IRIB. Karbasian noted that Iran’s gold output is expected to increase from the current 5 tons to 8 tons per year by the end of the current fiscal year (March 20, 2019). Gold mines are spread across 16 Iranian provinces, the largest of which, Zarshouran, is located 35 kilometers from Takab in West Azarbaijan Province.
