About $287 million worth of machine-made carpets were exported from Iran in the last fiscal year (March 2017-18). The main export destinations for these products were the neighboring countries of Afghanistan and Iraq, based on figures released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration. Close to $4.8 million worth of machine-made carpets were imported over the same period. Turkey with $2.5 million was the main source of carpet imports, IRNA reported.Some 94 million square meters of machine-woven carpets were produced in Iran last year. Accounting for 65.5% of domestic production, Isfahan is Iran’s machine-made carpet manufacturing hub, followed by Khorasan Razavi (12%), Mazandaran (8.2%) and Yazd (5.2%).
