Feasibility studies are underway to double-track the North Railroads Network, stretching from the city of Garmsar in Semnan Province in central Iran to Galougah in the northern Mazandaran Province. The announcement was made by Yousef Geran-Pasha, director general of North Railroads Department affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways. The construction of the project’s first phase from Qaemshahr to Sari (22 kilometers), Geran-Pasha said, will commence in the current Iranian year (March 2018-19) provided the feasibility studies are complete, the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported. “Currently, some 2.2 million tons of cargo and 1.4 million passengers are transported annually via the 370-kilometer-long North Railroads,” he added.
