Work-Related Fatalities Remain Unchanged

Despite the increase in the population of workers in Iran, the number of workplace accidents and fatalities in the last Iranian year (March 2017-18) remained unchanged compared to the year before, an official with the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare said.

Ali Mozaffari added that the population of workers in Iran stands at over 14 million.

Last year, 10,513 work-related accidents took place in Iran and 10,697 workers were involved in those incidents, Mehr News Agency reported.

A total of 842 workers died as a result of occupational accidents during the period.

Mozaffari also noted that over 400,000 cases of workplace inspections were conducted in the country.

More than 2.3 million workers die worldwide every year as a result of occupational accidents or work-related diseases, the International Labor Organization reported.

ILO estimates that the annual cost to the global economy from accidents and work-related diseases alone is a staggering $3 trillion.
