Iranian miners paid 6.74 trillion rials ($134.87 million) in mining royalties to the government during the first 11 months of the last fiscal year (March 21, 2017-Feb. 19), indicating an 88.1% increase year-on-year. Kerman Province’s miners had the highest contribution with 2.85 trillion rials ($57.1 million), followed by Yazd Province with 678 billion rials ($13.56 million) and East Azarbaijan with 601 billion rials ($12 million). According to IRNA, 5,800 mines are currently operating across the country. Iran is home to 68 types of minerals with more than 40 billion tons of proven reserves and 60 billion tons of potential reserves.
