Some 24 million passengers have been transported via rail in Iran since the beginning of the current fiscal year on March 21, 2017, registering a 6.5% increase compared with the similar period of last year, Ali Kazemimanesh, an official with the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, said on Friday. The Sixth Five-Year Development Plan (2017-22) has stipulated that the share of railroad in passenger transport should reach 20% or 103 million passengers per year, the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported.
