Director of Resistance Economy Commission of the parliament has called on President Hassan Rouhani to increase the ceiling of loans for purchasing and renovating rural homes to 300 million rials ($6,383) from the current 200 million rials ($4,255). According to IBENA, Rahim Zare’ also reasoned in his missive that 3.2 million rural homes are in poor conditions in terms of resistance against potential earthquakes and if the president fails to take necessary measures, it will result in “irreparable damage” recently witnessed in the western Kermanshah Province’s deadly 7.2-magnitude earthquake that took the lives of more than 500 people and leveled many homes. “So the lives of 13 million rural residents living in vulnerable residential units are in danger and this requires immediate action,” he wrote.
