Iran exported more than €113.65 million worth of commodities to Austria in 2017, indicating an 18.74% rise compared with the previous year. Imports of Iran from the European country amounted to more than €300 million, showing a 9.35% increase year-on-year, based on the latest Eurostat figures shared with Financial Tribune. As such, Iran-Austria trade stood at over €413.7 million, registering a 12% rise compared with 2016. This makes Austria Iran’s 10th biggest trade partner from among the 28 member states of the European Union over the period after Italy, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Belgium, Romania and Sweden. Austria’s Oberbank signed a finance deal worth €1 billion with 14 Iranian banks in September to fund Austrian development of civil and production projects in Iran. The contract was signed during the Iranian delegation’s visit to Austria headed by Ahmad Araqchi, Central Bank of Iran’s deputy for foreign exchange affairs, and Mohammad Khazaei, deputy minister of economy.
