A senior advisor to the managing director of Kish Free Trade Zone has said the Persian Gulf island serves as a model for all other Iranian cities in terms of planning and urban development.

The comments by Rasul Keshtpour were first reported by the PR department of the Kish Free Trade Zone. They were part of the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the Ideal City Expo held on the island.

“The existence of (development) indexes on Kish Island has turned it into a role model of urban development in the country, Iranian urban managers can benefit from Kish’s experience in dealing with major infrastructure challenges.”

Keshtpour pointed to the KFTZOs head Dr. Mousesan’s emphasis on observing the principle of authenticity in constructing new buildings and areas around the island, whilst also observing the uniqueness of Iranian-Islamic architectural styling.

The director also went on to say that the urban characteristics and advantages of Kish as a pioneer in this unique style will contribute to urban development and management across the country.

He also expressed hope that the exhibition would lead to the development of this architectural practice and management style throughout the Persian Gulf area.

In recent years, the Persian Gulf Island of Kish has seen a slew of new development projects, most notably the new residential areas of Nobonyard, which offers modern living accommodation for people living on the island.

The Lalehzar street development towards the south side of the island first conceived by the now jailed tycoon Babak Zanjani, is a contentious project that has raised concern.
