Iran’s Seventh Conference on E-Banking and Payment Systems will commence on Jan. 22 at Tehran’s Milad Tower and focus on innovation, new players in the electronic banking market and banks’ new income systems, its organizer said.

Ali Divandari added that the annual conference will discuss the activities of new payment system providers, new business plans for banks, open banking, digital banking, branchless banking, social banking, integration of financial activities, effects of technology on banks’ performance and assessment of their influence on electronic banking, IBENA reported.

“Discussions on payment providers will revolve around micro payments, integration of services, payment initiation and facilitators, mobile payment, credit cards, crowdfunding, cryptocurrencies and account information services,” he added.

According to the official, the main subjects of innovation forums will be block chain, mobile and near-field communication payments, payment card industry and EMV smart cards, tokenization and artificial intelligence.

Divandari, who also heads the Monetary and Banking Research Institute—the organization in charge of holding the conference, noted that with regard to regulatory technologies, the conference will discuss new economic frameworks, International Financial Reporting Standards, XBRL standards, risk management measures and anti-money laundering systems.

“In case of security systems, the conference will stress on new frameworks of information security management, controlled security services, managing security incidents in banking system, security of payments in new procedures such as Internet of Things and mobile points of sale alongside the use of intelligent security in banking system,” he said.

He vowed that this edition of the conference will empower startup companies and fintechs.

Economy Minister Masoud Karbasian, Telecoms Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi and Central Bank of Iran’s Governor Valiollah Seif will deliver keynote speeches at the conference, he added.

A total of 37 other speeches will be delivered by deputy ministers, CBI officials and foreign banking experts.

Noting that 13 well-known foreign experts on banking and economic affairs have been invited to address the conference, Divandari announced that Brett King, the renowned banking researcher and author who focuses on the future of electronic banking in his bestselling books, will be one of the speakers.

The official mentioned that the head of customer, digital and analytics at Ernst and Young Global Limited, Andreas Skopal, and designer of Malaysia’s fintech ecosystem, Jenna Beh Huey Ching, are also slated to address the conference.

“Our well-known foreign speakers will have great ideas for improving electronic banking in the country,” he said.

Divandari concluded by saying that a banking exhibition and a ceremony to award the Dr. Nourbakhsh Prize for banking achievements will also be held on the sidelines of the two-day conference.
