The Chabahar economic free zone in Iran’s southeast will host the country’s third automobile manufacturing hub, said an official in Center for Free and Special Economic Zones. Mohammad Mo’ezodini said investment in Chabahar free zone is among the safest and most efficient ways to accelerate development. He reiterated that the free zone has the potential to build cars and export them. Iran’s automotive sector is the country’s second largest industry after oil and gas, accounting for 10% of the GDP. The Strategic Chabahar free trade zone is seen as the shortest and the most secure route connecting central Asian independent states (CIS) and Afghanistan to international waters. It is also the only ocean port of the country.
