With the completion of Negin Island Port in Bushehr Province by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20), the container loading and unloading capacity for Bushehr Port will increase to 600,000 TEUs. This is twice its current capacity, making it the country’s second biggest container port after Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan Province, a deputy minister of roads and urban development said. “At present, Negin Port’s container terminal, multi-purpose terminal and bulk and liquid cargo wharf have made an 80% physical progress. Around 5.3 trillion rials (close to $122.6 million) worth of investments have gone into these three projects,” Mohammad Rastad, who is also the head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency. “Negin Island Port is being constructed on 200 hectares of the island’s 470-hectare area. The rest of the land will be used to set up different industries,” Rastad added.
