Qeshm Zinc Smelting Company is establishing a zinc hydroxide production plant to extract mine tailings from production waste, company manager, Amir Rahimi, announced. “The new plant will be a big step toward environment-friendly production,” he was quoted as saying by ILNA. The project, made up of two leeching and hydroxide production plants, is set to operate with a capacity of 35,000 tons of zinc hydroxide concentrate per year. It will be fed with 210,000 tons of zinc cake waste from primary production lines. Qeshm Zinc Smelting Company is located on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. The island enjoys a free trade zone status, meaning production units can benefit from incentives with regard to taxation, trade and customs regulations there. Unemployment in Qeshm stands at 6%, according to Secretary of High Council of Free Zones Morteza Bank.
