The number of passengers traveling from Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport has grown from 10 million to 18 million in the past three years, the managing director of Iran Airports Company said. The number of flights at the airport has also risen to 430-440 on a daily average during the same period. “Three years ago, Mehrabad airport didn’t even have a proper runway but now the reconstruction of a runway has been completed and it won’t need maintenance for at least the next eight years. Another runway has also been renewed,” Rahmatollah Mahabadi was also quoted as saying by IRNA. The newly-appointed director general of Mehrabad International Airport, Ali Rostami, predicts that the number of passengers using the airport will surpass 18 million by the Iranian yearend (March 20). Rostami noted that more than 145,000 flights are conducted annually at the airport.
