The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will be the co-organizer of the first international conference in Iran on holding and investment companies, dubbed Iran Holdings, reported SENA on Monday.

The conference, which is scheduled to be held in early February, will be aimed at introducing the most active holdings across the country. Along with UNIDO, the organizers include the House of Industry, Mine, and Trade for the Youth (HIMTY); the ministry of industry, mine and trade; the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA); a group of private sector associations, scientific associations and major Iranian holding companies.

The international event will be attended by Mohammadreza Nematzadeh, Iran’s minister of industry, mine, and trade; Mohammad Nahavandian, the Chief of Staff of the President’s Office; and Alessandro Amadio, UNIDO’s representative in Iran.

During the one-day conference, articles will be presented on the structure of holding companies and their positive impacts on national economies. A few workshops will also be held on the sidelines of the conference, including an awarding ceremony to introduce the best-performing holding companies in Iran.

A holding company is a company or firm that owns other companies’ outstanding stock. A holding company does not usually produce goods or services itself but its sole purpose is to own shares of other companies to form a corporate group and to control another company which might also be a corporation, limited partnership or limited liability company. Holding companies also exist for the purpose of owning property such as real estate, patents, trademarks, stocks and other assets.
