The results of a study by Majlis Research Center show out of six subcategories of transportation, “road transport” has the highest direct job creation coefficient among 35 economic sectors.
To calculate the job creation coefficient, the research arm of the Iranian Parliament has employed an input–output model, a form of economic analysis based on the interdependencies between economic sectors.
A one-billion-rial investment ($25,000) in road transport creates 4.36 job opportunities, of which 3.97 are direct jobs in the transportation sector while 0.38 are indirect jobs—that is jobs created in other economic sectors.
The subsector of “warehousing and transportation services” has the second highest direct job creation coefficient of 3.49. This subsector’s indirect job creation coefficient is 0.46 (job opportunities created from an investment of 1 billion rials in other economic sectors).
“Maritime transport” has the highest indirect job creation coefficient among all transportation subsectors with 1.32. Overall job creation coefficient of this subsector is 2.56. The subsector of “air transport” has the second highest indirect job creation coefficient that is 1.07.
