The Second International Exhibition of Meat and Related Industries, also known as Meatex 2017, opened at Tehran’s International Fairground on Monday with the attendance of 15 countries.

The expo is aimed at providing Iran’s processed meat industry with domestic and foreign investments, supplying Iranian halal products to Muslim countries, especially in the Middle East, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the East European countries, IRNA reported.

Along with domestic companies, representatives from foreign countries, including Spain, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, UK, Belgium and Switzerland, are present at the expo.

About 15,000 domestic visitors and 1,000 foreign visitors are expected to visit the exhibition that will conclude on Thursday.

“Two billion Muslims live in over 100 countries around the globe, but more than 80% of halal products are produced in non-Muslim countries,” said Hormoz Mahbod, executive manager of the exhibition, during the opening ceremony of the expo.

According to Mahbod, the global halal industry is worth $3.7 trillion.

The exhibition is the only specialized event for halal meat, protein products and related industries in the world and the only meat industry exhibition in the Middle East.

Over 120 domestic and foreign firms are showcasing their latest products, machinery, equipment and services at the four-day event.
