The southern Hormozgan Province accounts for 36% of Iran’s goods transit, director general of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization said. “One million tons of goods, including fuel, chemicals, construction materials, home appliances and cotton, were transported out of Hormozgan’s port city of Bandar Abbas during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22),” Dariush Baqer Javan was also quoted as saying by IRNA. Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, the central city of Hormozgan Province, is Iran’s biggest container port near the Strait of Hormuz, handling more than half of Iran’s total imports and exports.
