Iranian truck-maker Saipa Diesel has signed a contract with Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, Iranian Fuel Conservation Company and Tose’e Ta’avon Bank on Saturday to replace 3,000 aging trucks. The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development’s news portal reported that the deal is part of an agreement previously signed by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and Oil Ministry, based on which the government will replace 65,000 old trucks within five years. There are 120,000-130,000 vehicles in Iran’s cargo truck fleet with an average age of over 25 years. The old age of the fleet has resulted in excessive fuel consumption and exacerbated air pollution. A similar deal was signed with truck manufacturer Mammut to renovate 5,000 trucks in January.
