Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, Masoud Karbasian, has appointed Masoud Atefi as Iran’s permanent representative to World Customs Organization. Atefi earlier served as the supervisor of Khorasan Razavi Customs Administration and the director general of Mashhad Customs Bureau. “This appointment comes as a time when Iran is expanding cooperation with WCO, as customs relations with members of the world body need to be upgraded,” IRNA quoted an IRICA statement as saying. WCO is an intergovernmental organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, representing 181 customs administrations worldwide that collectively process approximately 98% of world trade. As the global center of customs expertise, WCO is the only international organization with competence in customs matters, which can rightly call itself the voice of the international customs community.
