“Astronomical” Salaries Deposited in Treasury

Director General of the Supreme Audit Court of Iran Adel Azar said the “astronomical” salaries of corporate executives have been returned to the treasury in their entirety.

“After eight months of official investigation, a total of 233 billion rials (about $5.82 million) paid to 397 senior officials were returned to the government’s coffers,” Azar was quoted as saying by ICANA.

The high paychecks of top managers at banks and other government and affiliated companies exposed on social media raised a furor in July 2016.

The figures were dozens of times the average monthly income of an urban household and have been described by the local media as “astronomical”.
