Institutional investors accounted for the lion’s share of trading at Tehran Stock Exchange during the Iranian month of Dey (December 21-January 19). Their trading comprised 65% and 63% of all purchases and sales respectively, Securities and Exchange News Agency reported. According to the Central Securities Depository of Iran, 33,000 institutional investors are trading in Iran securities market. Major institutional investors at TSE include pension funds like the Social Security Organization, as well as large banks and credit institutions. Some experts have blamed irregular and unpredictable price movements on the power some of these institutions yield in the market. Over 20.1 billion shares valued at $1.01 billion were traded at TSE during the period, registering a 30% rise in the number of traded shares and 0.2% drop in trade value.
