Since Mobarakeh Steel Company was founded in the early 90s, it has produced 90 million tons of steel products, 82% of which have been supplied to the domestic market, according to the company’s deputy head for sales and marketing.

“Meeting domestic demand has always been and will be on top of MSC’s agenda,” Mahmoud Akbari was also quoted by Mehr News Agency as saying.

Akbari added that the company’s expansion, however, depends on expanding exports.

Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 3.74 million tons of crude steel during the eight months to November 21, registering a 7% rise compared with last year’s corresponding period.

MSC also exported 1.07 million tons of crude steel and steel products in the first half of the current fiscal year (started March 20).

The company has the capacity to annually produce 10.2 million tons of hot and cold-rolled, tin-plated, galvanized, pre-painted steel sheets and coils as well as slabs, 30% of which are exported every year.

Together with its subsidiaries, MSC is the largest flat steel producer in the Middle East and North Africa region and Iran’s largest steelmaker, accounting for 1% of Iran’s GDP.

MSC accounts for approximately 50% of the country’s total steel output and holds around the same share in domestic flat steel consumption, which stood at around 7.5 million tons in the last fiscal year. The company produced about 5.5 million tons of flat products during the period, with 70% of this volume going to the local market.
